Logroño
Logroño is the capital of La Rioja, the second smallest of the 17 autonomous communities that make up Spain. Its name probably comes from the Celtiberian gronio, meaning 'ford'.
Besides being the capital of a province famous for its wines, Logroño is also one of Spain's tapas capitals – there are scores of tapas bars in the old town, many of them located in and around Calle del Laurel.
What to see in Logroño
Puente de piedra
The stone bridge originally had 12 arcs and 3 towers. It also features on Logroño's coat of arms. It was rebuilt in 1884 after collapsing in 1871.
Concatedral de Santa María
Nicknamed La Redonda ('the round one'), the co-cathedral of Logroño houses a painting of the crucifixion attributed to Michelangelo, behind the main altar.
