Privacy policy
Scope
Pilgrim8 is committed to providing quality services to you and this policy outlines our ongoing obligations to you in respect of how we manage your personal information. Pilgrim8 only collects personal information to the extent that is absolutely necessary to provide our services.
This policy applies to the pilgrim8.com website and to the Pilgrim8 mobile app for Android. Where the two differ, the differences are called out below.
What is personal information and why do we collect it?
Personal information is information that identifies an individual. Examples of personal information we collect include: names, email addresses. This personal information is obtained from you when you sign up. We do not guarantee website links or policy of authorised third parties.
You can use the mobile app without an account by choosing to continue without logging in. In that mode your name and email address are not collected. If you do log in, the app stores an authentication token on your device so that you stay signed in between launches. You can remove it at any time by logging out.
We collect your personal information for the primary purpose of providing our services to you. We may also use your personal information for secondary purposes closely related to the primary purpose, in circumstances where you would reasonably expect such use or disclosure. When we collect personal information we will, where appropriate and where possible, explain to you why we are collecting the information and how we plan to use it.
Location information in the mobile app
The mobile app can show your position and the direction you are facing on the map. This is optional. The app asks for location permission only when you tap the locate button on the map, and it will not ask again if you decline — the rest of the app works without it.
When you have granted permission, the app reads your device's location only while the app is open and the map is on screen. It does not read your location in the background, and it does not track your route over time.
Your location is used on your device to draw your position on the map. It is not sent to Pilgrim8, it is not stored on the Pilgrim8 servers, and it is not shared with anyone. You can withdraw permission at any time in your device's system settings.
Third Parties
Where reasonable and practicable to do so, we will collect your personal information only from you. However, in some circumstances we may be provided with information by third parties. In such a case we will take reasonable steps to ensure that you are made aware of the information provided to us by the third party.
Maps on the website and in the mobile app are served by Mapbox. Requesting map tiles necessarily reveals your IP address and the area of the map being viewed to Mapbox. Mapbox's own location telemetry is switched off in the mobile app. You can find their privacy policy here: https://www.mapbox.com/legal/privacy
The mobile app is distributed through Google Play. Any information Google collects as the distributor, such as install and crash statistics, is governed by Google's own privacy policy.
Disclosure of personal information
Your personal information may be disclosed in a number of circumstances including the following:
- Third parties where you consent to the use or disclosure; and
- Where required or authorised by law.
Security of personal information
Your personal information is stored in a manner that reasonably protects it from misuse and loss and from unauthorized access, modification or disclosure. When your personal information is no longer needed for the purpose for which it was obtained, we will take reasonable steps to destroy or permanently de-identify your personal information.
Deleting your account and your data
Your account and the personal information held with it can be deleted at any time from your account page at pilgrim8.com/me, which is also reachable from the About section of the mobile app's settings screen.
Deleting your account removes your name, email address and the plans saved against your account. Data held on your device by the mobile app, such as the authentication token and your selected route, is removed when you log out or uninstall the app.
Maintaining the quality of your personal information
It is important to us that your personal information is up to date. If you find that the information we have is not up to date or is inaccurate (including but not limited to name and e-mail address), please advise us as soon as practicable so we can update our records and ensure we can continue to provide quality services to you.
Policy Updates
This Policy may change from time to time and is available on pilgrim8.com.
