Murias de Rechivaldo marks the Camino's entrance into La Maragatería, a region historically associated with arrieros, muleteers who transported goods between Galicia and the Castilian interior. Their trade became particularly prosperous from the 17th century, and some of the substantial traditional houses built by these families can still be seen in the village.
