San Marcos

Monte do Gozo ("Hill of Joy") takes its name from the joy of pilgrims who traditionally caught their first glimpse of the towers of Santiago Cathedral from here. A medieval pilgrim tradition proclaimed the first member of a group to reach the summit "king of the pilgrimage". At the viewpoint, a monumental bronze version of José María Acuña López's 1990 work A chegada ("The Arrival") was installed for the 1993 Holy Year and depicts two pilgrims pointing towards Santiago.
