Pedra Furada is named in local tradition for the pierced stone beside the parish church. Legend says Santa Leocádia, the village's patron saint, was buried alive and forced her head through the stone covering her grave.

Local tradition identifies this pierced slab beside the church as the stone placed over the grave of Santa Leocádia, who supposedly made the hole as she struggled against being buried alive. Until around the 1960s, unmarried women also passed through the opening in the belief that doing so would help them find a husband.
