The local albergue, opened on 25 July 2004, was the first modern albergue in Portugal created exclusively for pilgrims walking to Santiago.

Igreja de São Pedro de Rates
The present Romanesque church dates mainly from the 12th and 13th centuries, replacing an earlier monastic church documented in 1100. Later tradition made São Pedro de Rates a disciple of Santiago and first bishop of Braga, though his historical existence is doubtful.
